The board of education for Chamberlain School District #7-1 was held Monday, June 8, in the middle/high school media center at the school in Chamberlain.
Stephanie Altamirano addressed the board under the public comment section of the meeting in reference to the murder of George Floyd in Minnesota and the recent racial equity issues that have come to the forefront of the country’s hearts and minds. She feels as a school district, “We must take the time to reflect upon the significance of this moment.”
Altamirano urged the board to take a moment to discuss, identify and address the many forms of racism and discrimination that “hide in plain sight in our district every day. How can we, as a school community, do more and be better? Are we truly doing all that we can do to ensure that we do indeed use education as the great equalizer to give all of our students an equal opportunity to succeed?”
