A Dakota Southern Railway train derailed approximately six miles west of Kimball on Saturday, June 27. The train was hauling grain to the West Coast. There were no injuries. Five cars were derailed and the track sustained damage as seen in the bottom photo. Dakota Southern Railway handled the cleanup operations. One road, 365th Avenue in Brule County, leading over the railroad tracks, was closed to public use. The roadway and the track will be repaired prior to opening of the road. The grain from the rail cars was augered out and transported to another location.
