Earn Third At State, Receive Sportsmanship Award

The Chamberlain Junior Teeners Baseball Team captured third place honors at the Junior Teener/14 and Under Class A State Tournament held July 17-19 at Greig Athletic Field in Chamberlain. The junior teeners were also the recipient of the Veterans of Foreign Wars William Radigan Sportsmanship Award. In first round action on Friday, July 17, Dakota Valley defeated Tea, 15-2; West Central over Madison White, 9-4; Elk Point-Jefferson over Dell Rapids, 8-3 and Chamberlain over Madison Gold, 5-3. Day two action on Saturday, July 18 saw Tea eliminate Madison White, 6-4; Madison Gold over Dell Rapids, 11-1, West Central advanced to the championship defeating Dakota Valley, 6-4 and Elk Point-Jefferson advanced to the championship downing Chamberlain, 2-1. The final day of the tournament, Sunday, July 18, saw Madison Gold down Tea, 8-1 for fifth place; Chamberlain over Dakota Valley, 8-1 for third and West Central over Elk Point-Jefferson, 10-2 for the championship.
