By Nate Iversen

Sep 23, 2020

“Success breeds success” is the mantra used by Chamberlain Wrestling Coach John Donovan.
In June, Donovan was recognized as the 2020 Wrestling Coach Of The Year by the South Dakota High School Coaches’ Association. Nominated by other wrestling coaches in the state, he was then selected by all coaches in the association as a whole. This is the second time Donovan has won the award. He was first bestowed the award 20 years ago when he was the head coach at Harding County High School.
As the ninth of 11 children, Donovan was born in Miller. His family would relocate to Orient and eventually Mitchell, where Donovan would attend school until the sixth grade. His family then moved to Chamberlain, where Donovan would attend school and graduate.
