Graveside services for Willa Mae Madison, 66, of Lower Brule, SD, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2020, at the Holy Comforter Episcopal Cemetery of Lower Brule, SD.
Burial was at the Holy Comforter Episcopal Cemetery of Lower Brule, SD.
Willa Mae Madison (Yuhapi Waste Win) began her journey on June 23, 2020, from Sanford Medical Center of
Sioux Falls, SD, with family by her side.
Willa Mae Madison (Yuhapi Waste Win) was born Jan. 6, 1954, to William and Bertha (Eagle Thunder) Fire Cloud and joined older sisters, Ruth and Wilma.
She attended grade school in Lower Brule, SD, and graduated from Crow Creek High School of Stephan, SD; where she met many friends, some of whom she remained close with through adulthood.
After high school, Willa attended United Tribes Technical Community College in Bismarck, ND, where she received her clerical degree. Willa then attended Haskell Indian Nations University of Lawrence, Kansas,
where she received an accounting degree. Willa returned to Lower Brule, SD, and later attended Lower Brule Community College of Lower Brule, SD, receiving her associate of arts in human services and AA in fine arts.
Willa was united in marriage to Kenneth K. Madison. To this union, January Jo Madison was born on Jan. 26.
Willa made her home in Lower Brule, SD, and worked at various jobs.
Willa was a caring person and liked spending time with her “Grands,” although she did not have any of her own.
She loved visiting with friends.
She liked playing slot machines and enjoyed her beers.
Grateful for having shared her life are her ex-husband, Kenneth Madison; a special friend, Ritchie Medicine Eagle; her sisters, Wilma M. Wilson and Cyrhina Fire Cloud; an aunt, Irene Skunk and several nieces, nephews, grands and great grands.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bertha Fire Cloud; her only child, January Jo Madison and her sisters, Ruth Flute, Ruby Jandreau and Jessie Mae Fire Cloud-Johnson.
Hickey Funeral Chapel of Chamberlain, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
