Funeral services for Vivian Rita Sawalla, 65, of Mitchell, SD, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2020, at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD.
Wake services were held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, 2020, at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD.
Burial was at Holy Comforter Episcopal Cemetery of Lower Brule, SD.
Vivian Rita Sawalla died Sept. 27, 2020, at Avera Queen of Peace in Mitchell, SD, at the age of 65.
Vivian Rita Sawalla was born March 23, 1955, in Rosebud, SD, to Joseph and Maggie (Lever) Sawalla.
At the age of eight, Vivian went to live in Redfield, SD, where she made her home until 2001 when she moved to Mitchell, SD, to be closer to her sister, Vera.
Vivian enjoyed the company of the staff in the home where she lived and enjoyed the weekly visits from her sister, Vera.
A smile is a gift that someone shares with another that warms his/her heart for a lifetime. That is what Vivian “Viv” Sawalla did for the lives of many.
She had a smirk and expression that communicated her wishes and a laugh that was infectious.
Viv was admired for her spunk, determination and unique ways of letting you know her wishes.
Viv was soft at heart and enjoyed the time she spent in the presence of others.
Though quiet in words spoken, she spoke in ways to others that created a strong bond of friendship and companionship.
Vivian loved spending time on the deck at North Kimball in Mitchell, SD, with her friends, especially when the sun was shining.
Grateful for having shared her life are her siblings, Vera Sawalla, Clyde Sawalla, Emmett Sawalla, Barbara Bad Horse and Jennifer Bad Horse and many other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Sawalla; her mother, Maggie (Lever) Sawalla-Bad Horse; sisters, Pansy Sawalla, Velma Bad Horse, Rena Bad Horse and Bernice Jackson and brothers, Larry Eagle Star, Lester Eagle Star and Jasper Eagle Star.
Hickey Funeral Chapel of Chamberlain, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
