Funeral services for Travis Leon Comes Flying, 50, of Fort Thompson, SD, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2020, at the Fort Thompson Community Center in Fort Thompson, SD.
Wake services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020, and Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, at the Fort Thompson Community Center of Fort Thompson, SD.
Burial will be at the Christ Episcopal Cemetery of Fort Thompson, SD.
Travis Leon Comes Flying made his journey to the Spirit World on Jan. 3, 2020, from Sanford Medical Center of Chamberlain, SD, at the age of 50.
Travis Leon Comes Flying was born Sept. 3, 1969, at Mid-Dakota Hospital of Chamberlain, SD, to Jozay and Delores (Ross) Comes Flying.
During his life, he attended Fort Thompson Elementary of Fort Thompson, SD, and went on to Crow Creek High School of Stephan, SD, where he graduated in May of 1987 with honors of salutatorian of his class.
In 1987, Trav enlisted in the United States Army, graduating from basic training at Fort Leonard wood, Missouri. He was stationed on the Island of Oahu in Hawaii at Fort Shafter from 1988 until 1991. Trav remained on active duty with the Army until being honorably discharged in 1994.
From 1988 through 1992, Trav was blessed with three children – Trevor Comes Flying, Tiffany Comes Flying and Josephae Comes Flying, all of Fort Thompson, SD.
In 1995, Trav began working for the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe as an ambulance emergency medical technician. He then went to work for the Fort Thompson Indian Health Service as a community health representative. In
2014, he returned to work for the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe Ambulance Program as the director. He was employed with the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe for over 20 years.
In 1999, Trav met the love of his life,Michelle Pease and they were united in marriage in 2007. To this union, they were blessed with four daughters – Chenoa Comes Flying, Chante Comes Flying, Leondra Comes Flying and Alanna Comes Flying, all of Fort Thompson, SD.
Trav loved being an EMT and serving his community and was well respected and loved by many people.
The people who were affected by his caring, loving and generous spirit would have also known that his family and children are his world and meant everything to him. He was steadily and anxiously waiting for the arrival of the newest grandchild to be born from his daughter, Chenoa.
Trav’s many joys in life were spending time with his family and friends.
He also loved spending time with his very special brother, Fabian.
Trav will be truly missed.

Fort Thompson, SD, Chenoa Comes Flying of Fort Thompson, SD, Chante Comes Flying of Fort Thompson, SD, Leondra Comes Flying of Fort Thompson, SD, and Alanna Comes Flying of Fort Thompson, SD; two sisters, Janice Bad Mocassin of Prior Lake, MN, and Wanda Gourneau and husband, Frank of Fort Thompson, SD; two brothers, Fabian Comes Flying and wife, Leatha of Fort Thompson, SD, and Farlan Comes Flying of Fort Thompson, SD, and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; his parents, Jozay and Delores Comes Flying; brothers, Llewelyn Comes Flying and Armand Comes Flying, Sr.; a sister, Deb Walking Bull; a very special aunt, Illa Long Crow; a niece, Nellie Walking Bull and his father-in-law, Wallace Pease, Sr.
