Ruth Ellen Johnson a/k/a “Kunsh” died Sept. 23, 2020, at her home in Oacoma, SD.
Ruth Ellen Johnson was born Aug. 6, 1955, at Wagner, SD, to Margaret (Jandreau) and Robert I. Pomani.
She lived with her grandmother, Deliah (Whipple) Jandreau up until Deliah passed away. Ruth then moved in with her mother, Margaret (Jandreau) Flute and stepfather, Harry Flute. In 1969, the family moved to Fort Thompson, SD.
When Ruth turned 18, she was united in marriage to Prentiss Wells. During this union, Ruth moved around South Dakota and Nebraska.
Ruth attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD. She worked as a nurse’s aide in nursing homes in the Pierre, SD, and Sioux Falls, SD, area.
When Ruth departed this union, she returned to Fort Thompson, SD, where she attended Lower Brule Community College, earning her child development associate degree while working at Lynn’s and eventually transitioning to head start as a teacher’s aide.
Ruth then met the love of her life, Alvin Johnson, Jr. and they were united in marriage on Aug. 6, 1993. From that point, Alvin took care of Ruth until she passed away.
Ruth had a bubbly personality and a laugh that could light up the room.
She loved all children! She loved spending time with her family, playing cards with her husband and siblings, playing family bingo for snacks, fishing and cruising with her husband. She loved the family get-togethers, bonfires, s’mores, roasting hot dogs and roasting each other – each time there was a new victim to roast.
Ruth loved her church family and attending services in Mitchell, SD. She enjoyed being put in the back seat by her little sidekick, Honesty. When you became friends with Ruth, she was your friend for life.
Grateful for having shared her life are her loving husband, Alvin Johnson, Jr.; brothers, Gary Flute, Sr., David Flute and wife, Josephine, Kenneth Flute and wife, Crystal and Stephen Flute; sisters, Sandy Harmon and husband, Dean and Estelle Hawkwing and husband, Floyd and nieces, nephews and
grandchildren too numerous to mention.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Pomani; her mother, Margaret (Jandreau) Flute; her stepfather, Harry Flute; paternal grandfather, Buckley Pomani; maternal grandparents, Stephen Jandreau and Deliah (Whipple) Jandreau and many others too numerous to mention.
