Graveside services for Robert L. “Bumpy” McGhee, 82, of Crow Creek, SD, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 8, 2020, at St. John’s Episcopal Cemetery at Crow Creek, SD.
Robert L. “Bumpy” McGhee died June 6, 2020, at home in Crow Creek, SD, at the age of 82.
Robert L. “Bumpy” McGhee was born April 9, 1938, to Hilda McGhee and Robert G. Philbrick.
At a young age, Robert was raised by Frank and Mercy (McBride) McGhee.
He attended grade school in Fort Thompson, SD, and graduated from Pukwana High School of Pukwana, SD, in 1956.
On Jan. 19, 1957, Robert was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Ohlrogge at Chamberlain, SD. They began their married life in Chamberlain, SD, before making their lifelong home in Crow Creek, SD.
He worked on the construction of Big Bend Dam for approximately one year before starting his life farming and ranching.
Grateful for having shared his life are his mother, Hilda Longcrow of Fort Thompson, SD; two daughters, Roxanne Fitzler and Jack of Parkston, SD, and Brenda Morris and Paul of Mitchell, SD; two sons, Quintin R. McGhee of Pukwana, SD, and Curtis McGhee of Lower Brule, SD; ten grandchildren, Kris, Kayla, Katie, Josh, Maria, LaCosta, Sonny, Frankie, Alana and Shawna; 24 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, Cora; two sisters, Helen Fuerst and Hazel Olson; three brothers, Frank “Buzzy” McGhee, Jr., LeRoy McGhee and Wayne “Flookie” McGhee and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia McGhee; his father, Robert Philbrick; grandparents, Frank and Mercy McGhee; two sisters, Della Lytle and Effie Miller and two brothers, Vern McGhee and Arnold McGhee.
Hickey Funeral Chapel of Chamberlain, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
