Funeral mass for Rebecca “Becky” Frances Yackley, 85, of Onida, SD, was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, at St. Pius X Catholic Church of Onida, SD, with Father Jerry Kopel officiating.
A wake was held at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, with visitation one hour prior, all at St. Pius X Catholic Church of Onida, SD.
Burial was at the Onida Cemetery of Onida, SD.
Rebecca “Becky” Frances Yackley died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital of Pierre, SD, with family present.
Rebecca “Becky” Frances Yackley, along with twin sister, Regina “Gina,” was born July 15, 1934, at Coffeeville, Kansas, to Frank and Katie (Lynn) Sack.
Prior to Becky entering the second grade, Frank and Katie moved their family to Wichita, Kansas. Becky, her parents and two of her siblings (Regina and Colletta) moved to Onida, SD, when Becky entered junior high.
Becky graduated from Onida High School of Onida, SD, in 1952.
Upon graduation, Becky secured a job with the State of South Dakota where she worked for approximately one year before marrying her high school sweetheart, Bud Yackley, on a very hot July 6, 1953, in the Holy
Rosary Catholic Church in Agar, SD. Becky and Bud made their home in Onida, SD, up until November of 2017 and January of 2018, respectively, when they entered Edgewood Senior Living in Pierre, SD.
Becky was a “stay at home Mom,” taking in laundry/ironing to earn extra money for the family until all of her children were in school. Becky then worked at various local businesses such as the grocery store, in the kitchen at the local school, at the Onida Bank, the Sully County Soil Conservation District, etc. in the following years.
Becky taught catechism for many years. She belonged to the St. Pius X Catholic Church, the altar society at the St. Pius X Catholic Church, the Sully County Jaycettes and many other community organizations.
She loved to play cards.
She loved to dance and listen to music by Eddie Arnold, Charlie Pride and others.
She played softball into her 50s. She bowled into her 70s.
She taught herself to knit and crochet.
She was committed to making a good home for her family. She especially loved being around family and friends. Becky and Bud drove many, many miles, sat on many, many bleachers, spent many, many hours following their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in their various activities, whether it was athletics, academics, plays, concerts, baptisms, confirmations, graduations, weddings, etc. and they loved every minute of those experiences.
As many of you know, Becky/Mom struggled with Alzheimer’s the last few years of her life. It is a horrible disease that robs a person of their identity and their dignity.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
