Funeral services for Misty Rose Scothern, 28, of Chamberlain, SD, were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2020, at the Hilltop Baptist Church of Lower Brule, SD.
Wake services were held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020, and Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020, at the Hilltop Baptist Church of Lower Brule, SD.
Burial was at the Holy Comforter Episcopal Cemetery of Lower Brule, SD.
Misty Rose Scothern died Aug. 6, 2020, at Sanford Medical Center of Chamberlain, SD, at the age of 28.
Misty Rose Scothern was born Oct. 28, 1991, at Mid-Dakota Hospital of Chamberlain, SD, to Donald Scothern and Esther Pretty Sounding Flute.
She attended school in Lower Brule, SD, and later transferred to St. Joseph’s Indian School of Chamberlain, SD. In her later school years, she came back to school at Lower Brule, SD.
Misty enjoyed life to the fullest. She was full of spunk and feisty as ever.
She was charismatic. She also told it like it was, whether you liked it or not.
Misty was an animal person and loved her pets.
She loved to have fun and would help anyone who was in need.
Misty was a social butterfly. She made friends everywhere she went.
Misty loved to dance, be by the river, swimming, playing basketball, collecting unique coins, traveling and taking pictures, laughing and spending time with family and friends.
Misty was the mothering type and always helped her nieces and nephews anyway she could. She loved being an auntie.
On May 28, 2017, Misty met her hero, James (Jimmy) lsburg Jr. They shared a wonderful life together along with three dogs – Boy, Sugh and Baby. Her dog, Baby was her ride or die and went everywhere with her.
Grateful for having shared her life are her mother, Esther Pretty Sounding Flute of Lower Brule, SD, and Donald Scothern of Virginia; a brother, Jacob Pretty Sounding Flute of Rapid City, SD; a sister, Rebecca Rodriquez of Lower Brule, SD; a sister, Jacqueline Ross of Lower Brule, SD; a brother, Elijah Pretty Sounding Flute of Chamberlain, SD; nephews, Raymond and Jordan (Baby Jordan), Jack Lawrence and Carlos; nieces, Savannah, Natanah, Journie, Charlie and Legacee and family and friends too numerous to name.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Virgil Pretty Sounding Flute and Isabell Drum Pretty Sounding Flute; an uncle, Christopher Pretty Sounding Flute and an aunt, Baby Girl Pretty Sounding Flute.
Hickey Funeral Chapel of Chamberlain, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
