Funeral services for Milo Elroy Hanzen, 87, of Inwood, Iowa, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 2020, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Inwood, Iowa, with the Rev. John Wolf officiating.
Public viewing with no family present was held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, 2020, at Porter Funeral Home of Inwood, Iowa.
Burial was at the Richland Cemetery of Inwood, Iowa.
Milo Elroy Hanzen died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020, at Sanford University of South Dakota Medical Center of Sioux Falls, SD.
Milo Elroy Hanzen was born May 23, 1933, in Doon, Iowa, to Herman and Mary (Serck) Hanzen.
He attended school through the eighth grade and then headed straight to the farm.
Milo was united in marriage to Joey Wiese on June 22, 1957, in Luverne, MN. Together they farmed in the Inwood, Iowa, area.
Milo enjoyed farming, playing cards with their gang of long-time pinochle friends and fishing, while he still could.
Regular visits to the casino brought him great joy.
Milo was known for pulling a few pranks and telling a good joke or story.
Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter, Tami Soukup and Lance Dieken; grandchildren, Mandy Haga, Nicole Guse and husband, Paul, Cory Soukup and Drew Soukup; great grandchildren, Thomas and Simone; special companion for the last happy years of his life, Shirley Chmela; a sister-in-law, Barbara Lueck and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joey Hanzen; his parents, Herman and Mary Hanzen; a daughter, Teri Haga; a brother, Walter Hanzen and wife, Gladys and a sister, Viola Watke-Meiburg.
Porter Funeral Home of Inwood, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
