​A private family visitation and service for Michael “Mike” James Washechek, 57, of Wessington Springs, SD, will be held at the Eagle Presbyterian Cemetery of rural Kimball, SD. Burial will also take place at the
Eagle Presbyterian Cemetery of rural Kimball, SD.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
Michael “Mike” James Washechek died Tuesday morning, April 21, 2020, at his mother’s residence in Wessington Springs, SD, at the age of 57.
Michael “Mike” James Washechek was born Oct. 10, 1962, to Richard and Ruth (Hopp) Washechek.
He attended country school by Wessington, SD, and in 1977 moved to Wessington Springs, SD, where he completed the rest of his school years and graduated in 1982.
Mike worked with his dad and brothers harvesting for Washechek and Sons and later moved to Huron, SD, where he was married to Iris (Cables) for 24 years and had a son, Micheal Jr.
Mike worked doing custodial, landscaping and car detailing for many years before moving back to Wessington Springs, SD, in the last five years.
Mike had a love for music, being with family and fishing where in years past was always seen fishing at the James River on Third Street. Mike loved to help others and play card games with his grandchildren and
nieces/nephews, going for walks and always had a good joke/story to tell.
Mike will be remembered for his smile and kind hearted ways.
Grateful for having shared his life are his son, Micheal Washechek of Harrold, SD, and three grandchildren, Gary Micheal of Harrold, SD, Hayden of Harrold, SD, and Jenna of Harrold, SD; his mother, Ruth Washechek
of Wessington Springs, SD; brothers, Rick Washechek of Huron, SD, Todd Washechek and wife, Tiffany of Florida and Scott Washechek of Sioux Falls, SD; a sister, Lisa Washechek of Wolsey, SD; three nephews, Richard, Royse and John Paul; six nieces, Maddi, Macy, Mia, Piper, Tessa and Eva.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Washechek and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Basham Funeral Service of Wessington Springs, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
