Private family graveside services for Marcella Rose Johnson, 83, of Plankinton, SD, took place at Mizpah Cemetery of Plankinton, SD, with Father Robert Lacey officiating.
Marcella Rose Johnson died Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at her home in Plankinton, SD.
Marcella Rose Johnson was born Sept. 14, 1936, on the family farm in Aurora County, ten miles north of Plankinton, SD, to Warren Ole and Rosalia (Grambihler) Larson.
She attended Aurora County Country Grade School, a year of Catholic school in Woonsocket, SD, graduated from Plankinton High School of Plankinton, SD, in 1954 and then went on to the National School of Business in Rapid City, SD.
On Nov. 11, 1955, Marcella was united in marriage to Darrel Edward Johnson at St. John’s Catholic Church in Plankinton, SD. They started their life together in Texas, relocated to Chamberlain, SD, and were blessed with
four children. They then moved to Plankinton, SD, to help her father farm and eventually purchased their own farm from Otto Miller where they raised their family and lived until retirement.
Marcella liked working with numbers and was employed as a bookkeeper 12 years for the Fraser Cement Plant and 12 years for the Roadhouse Pub Cafe.
Marcella’s creative side could be seen in her sewing and award-winning paintings and drawings.
She loved horseback riding and racing, as well as square dancing. She enjoyed gardening, yard work and researching family history through genealogy as a member of the Aurora County Historical Society.
Easter was Marcella’s favorite holiday because that’s when all the kids were home.

Lance Johnson and wife, Mary of Plankinton, SD; 14 grandchildren: Anna Klein, Neil Klein, Melissa Coull, Tina Star, Joshua Johnson, Cody Johnson, Luke Johnson, Brenna Thompson, Danny Whipple, Aly Crook, Jayme
Whipple, Alan Birmeier, Katrina Birmeier and Raelee Blury; 14 great grandchildren, Megan, Isaac, Stephanie, Josephine, Orion, Flora, Gage, Trael, Tanner, Tyler, Miranda, Katherine, Talon and Liam; a sister, Lenora
Hoffman and husband, Dale; two brothers, Dan Larson and wife, Carylin of Plankinton, SD, and Tim Larson and wife, Ruth of Plankinton, SD; a brother-in-law, LaVerne Johnson and wife, Maryanne of Rapid City, SD; a
sister-in-law, Julie Wulf of Scotland, SD, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel Johnson on Feb. 16, 2017; her parents, Warren and Rose Larson; a sister, Doris Briggs; a brother, David Larson; parents-in-law, Charles and Mayme Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Georgia Grambihler and Muriel Gilberts; a brother-in-law, Marvin Johnson and an infant grandson, Jeremiah Johnson.
Mount Funeral Home of Plankinton, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
