She was baptized into the Christian faith on the same day.
The oldest of seven children during the Great Depression, Loretta learned about hard work at a young age – first, at home, then hiring out to do housework at the age of 12.
After graduating from White Lake High School of White Lake, SD, in 1942, Loretta received her two-year teaching degree from Yankton College of Yankton, SD. She taught fourth grade in Presho, SD, for one year after receiving her teaching certificate.
Loretta then returned to her forever home in White Lake, SD, to marry Claude Glissendorf.

Married life allowed Loretta to do several of the activities she enjoyed, including cooking and baking, gardening, babysitting her nieces and nephews, sewing and handiwork, participating in church activities, playing cards, raising chickens and helping on the farm.
On Jan. 29, 1948, her only child, Diana Kay, was born. Diana married Richard Kieffer on Dec. 30, 1970, giving Loretta two of the greatest joys of her life, Kathy and Karen.
After losing Claude at the young age of 68, Loretta moved to town and spent her later years attending concerts of her granddaughters, crocheting, playing cards, visiting her neighbors, helping her daughter at Kieffer Hunting Lodge and walking at least two miles each day.
