Leighton LaRoche, Sr.
March 19, 1963 – August 19, 2020

Funeral services for Leighton LaRoche, Sr., 57, of Lower Brule, SD, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28,
2020, at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD.
Wake services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020, and Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020, at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD.
Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery of Lower Brule, SD.
Leighton LaRoche, Sr. made his spiritual journey on Aug. 19, 2020, at the age of 57 with his beloved daughter, Rosetta and his sister, Dulcy, by his side at the Sanford University of South Dakota Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
Leighton LaRoche, Sr. was born March 19, 1963, to Rose Quilt-Eagle Star and Erwin LaRoche.
He attended school at St. Joseph’s Indian School of Chamberlain, SD, then transferred to Lower Brule Sioux Elementary of Lower Brule, SD. He relocated to New Mexico and attended high school at Espanola High School in Espanola, NM.
Leighton’s hobbies were any type of mechanical work, horseback riding, hunting and weight lifting. He spent most of his time in the field of mechanics. He had such a love of mechanics that he turned it into a lifelong
career.
Leighton was raised by beloved Grandmother Mabel Driving Hawk. He was blessed to have a Hun’ka family and spent his time, age 11 to 21, with Alfred and Gayle Ziegler and family.
Leighton was a fun loving person and had many, many friends he enjoyed spending time with. He had a great sense of humor and deep abiding love for his children and family.
Grateful for having shared his life are his mother, Rose Quilt-Eagle Star; his father, Erwin LaRoche; his sisters, Melissa LaRoche, Judy LaRoche, Connie LaRoche, Danielle LaRoche, Dorri Estes and husband, Troy, Deidra Bad Horse, Margaret Eagle Star, Dulcy Eagle Star, Nancy Eagle Star and Anita Pretty Sounding Flute and husband, Dave; brothers, Earl LaRoche, Sr., Curt McGhee, Darrell LaRoche, Jarrid LaRoche, Troy LaRoche, Jasper Eagle Star, Basil Eagle Star and Dillion LaRoche; his children, three daughters, Rosetta LaRoche, Cindy LaRoche and Sarah Iron Thunder; three sons, Leighton LaRoche, Jr., Aaron Grassrope and Warren
Grassrope; 17 grandchildren, Latayiah LaRoche, Prenice LaRoche, Lamaya LaRoche, Leighton LaRoche III, Jaylan LaRoche, Jaxon LaRoche, Alexis Ziegler, Reese Ziegler, Hannah Ziegler, Janelle Smith, Alyssa Fire Cloud, Steven Langdeau III, Aleighya LaRoche, Liam Medicine Crow and Hugo LaRoche and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Hun’ka Father, Alfred Ziegler; paternal grandparents, Mabel (Black Tomahawk) Driving Hawk and Alex LaRoche; maternal grandparents, Felix and Sible Quilt; a sister, Lakota Ann LaRoche; a daughter, Alexis LaRoche and a grandson, Ogligle Wakan Hoksila LaRoche.
Hickey Funeral Chapel of Chamberlain, SD, will be in charge of arrangements.
