Funeral services for Kenneth (Kenny) Leroy Harmon, 87, of Lower Brule, SD, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, at his residence at 23880 Highway 21 in Lower Brule, SD.
Wake services were held at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, 2020, at the Harmon home at 23880 Highway 21 in Lower Brule, SD.
Burial was at Iron Nation Messiah Cemetery of Lower Brule, SD.
Kenneth (Kenny) Leroy Harmon was surrounded by his loving family when he died peacefully at home in Lower Brule, SD, on Sept. 24, 2020.
Kenneth (Kenny) Leroy Harmon was born Jan. 8, 1933, at Oacoma, SD, to Frank and Ruth Harmon and was one of 11 children.
He was united in marriage to Marilyn Rika Langdeau on May 25, 1952.
Kenny served in the United States Army, stationed in Fort Knox in Kentucky and Camp Stewart in Georgia. While in the Army, he serviced heavy tanks and was a Golden Glove member of the United States Army boxing team.
Following his Army career, Kenny worked construction in various states before he and Marilyn eventually settled in Lower Brule, SD, where they raised their beautiful family.
Kenny had a great love for horses and was a long-time member of the South Dakota Race Horse Association, successfully training and racing several horses. When he wasn’t on the track, he could usually be found in the rodeo arena, team roping and participating in the rough stock events.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marilyn Harmon; daughters, Sandra Abdo and husband, Joe, Mary Jane Gourneau and husband, Boyd, Kenna Theragood, Dena Harmon and Kelly Vosberg, Jean Nahomni Mani Harmon and Karil Harmon; a son, John McCauley and wife, Jodi; 32 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren, 27 great great grandchildren and siblings, Donald Harmon and wife, Liz, James Harmon, Irene Harmon-Bunnell and Anna June Harmon Schooler-McGuire.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ruth Harmon; his brothers, Gene Harmon, Ralph Harmon, Charles Harmon, Glen Harmon and Wayne Harmon; a sister, Alice Harmon-Hutmacher; grandbabies, Kip Allan Kersting and Kyle Lee Two-Bulls and a great grandbaby, Trinity Noel Tubbs.
Hickey Funeral Chapel of Chamberlain, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
