Juanita Willis

​Funeral services for Juanita Willis, 91, of Watertown, SD, formerly of Presho, SD, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020, at the United Methodist Church of Presho, SD.
Visitation was held from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020, at the United Methodist Church of Presho, SD.
Burial was at the Presho City Cemetery of Presho, SD.
Juanita Willis died Monday, Feb. 24, 2020, at Watertown, SD.
Juanita Willis was born at home on July 4, 1928, at Lometa, Texas, to Roy and Donah (Fox) Mayben.
She grew up in Lometa, Texas, and graduated from high school there.
She attended Texas Women’s College in Denton, Texas.
While at college, she met Charles Willis. The couple married in a little chapel on the college campus on Feb. 4, 1951.
After college graduation, they moved to Miller, SD. This is where they started their family by welcoming their first child, John. They moved to Chamberlain, SD, and opened a veterinarian practice. At this time, Cynthia
and Jane joined the family.
Juanita was active in Eastern Star, Jobs Daughters, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Civil Air Patrol. She was a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed bowling.
In 1973, the family moved to Presho, SD. Charles and Juanita worked together in the veterinarian practice for many years. She ran the office and did the bookwork but also worked cattle and did various other things for their practice.
Juanita was an emergency medical technician with the Lyman County Ambulance Service for many years.
She served on the school board and drove the school bus.
She was involved in various church activities over the years.
In 2014, they moved to Watertown, SD.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, John Willis and wife, Karen of Presho, SD, Cynthia Leblanc and Todd Kinyon of Watertown, SD, and Jane Kingsbury and husband, Gary of Mitchell, SD; 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; Frances Dameron and Mary Ella Gentry and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Doc” Willis; her parents, Roy and Donah Mayben; her siblings, Wanda Alexander, Leroy Mayben, Clifford “CB” Mayben, Mickey Barnes and Bob Jay Barnes and a great grandson, Justice Ray.
Isburg Funeral Chapel of Pierre, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
