Funeral services for Jean Ann Brakke, 83, of Presho, SD, were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2020, at the Kennebec Lutheran Church of Kennebec, SD, with Pastor Mindy Ehrke officiating.
Burial was at the Presho City Cemetery of Presho, SD.
Jean Ann Brakke died Sunday, July 12, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society-Prairie Creek Assisted Living in Sioux Falls, SD.
Jean Ann Brakke was born March 21, 1937, at Chamberlain, SD, to Jake and Minnie (Fosness) Boschee.
They lived on a farm near the White River of South Dakota before moving to Presho, SD, when she was young. Jean Ann graduated from Presho High School of Presho, SD, in 1955. She attended Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish, SD. She taught at several rural schools around Lyman County in South Dakota.
Jean Ann married Harold Brakke June 26, 1958, at the American Lutheran Church in Presho, SD. They raised their four children on the farm, along Medicine Creek.
Driving and travel was in her blood. She drove cattle trucks with Harold for many years. Later they traveled together around the United States as well as a trip to Norway.
She served 25 years as Lyman County register of deeds. While at work one day, she bought Jet Lanes during a courthouse auction. An impulse buy she would talk about for years to come.
After her retirement, Jean Ann volunteered at the Thrift Store and More in Presho, SD. She enjoyed both customers and fellow volunteers.
Harold and Jean Ann moved to Presho, SD, in 2003. Jean Ann resided there until her move in August of 2019, to the Good Samaritan Society at Prairie Creek Assisted Living. She enjoyed her friends and the staff of the
facility.
Jean Ann was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Butrick Post, Presho and Medicine Creek Grange. She was also a long-time member of the Kennebec Lutheran Church, WELCA, Farmers Union, Farm Bureau,
Red Hat Society and the Lyman County Republican Party . She was an avid bowler-golfer and started a “Grannies Dart Group.” Jean Ann enjoyed playing bridge with the Kennebec and Vivian clubs.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Crystal Brakke of Presho, SD, Jason Brakke and wife, Cindy of Sioux Falls, SD, Carl Brakke and Nicole Husman of Presho, SD, and Nelson Brakke and wife, Tracy of Kennebec, SD; eight grandchildren, Jake Brakke and Rilie Haken of Sioux Falls, SD, Logan Brakke of Sioux Falls, SD, Tad Brakke of Sioux Falls, SD, Caryn Brakke of Pierre, SD, Ambrus Brakke of Kennebec, SD, Annie
Brakke of Kennebec, SD, Ayden Brakke of Kennebec, SD, and Avery Brakke of Kennebec, SD; a bonus grandson, Chace Brakke of Presho, SD; a great granddaughter, Harper Brakke of Sioux Falls, SD, and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Brakke; her parents, Jake and Minnie Boschee; a brother, Ronald Boschee and several nieces and nephews.
Isburg Funeral Chapel of Presho, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
