​Funeral services for January Jo Madison, 42, of Lower Brule, SD, were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2020, at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD.
Wake services were held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD.
Burial was at the Wilson Family Plot in Lower Brule, SD.
January Jo Madison began her journey at her home, “Indian Alley” in Lower Brule, SD, on March 20, 2020.
January Jo Madison was born Jan. 26, 1978, at Community Bailey Hospital of Chamberlain, SD, to Kenneth K. Madison and Willa M. (Fire Cloud) Madison.
She spent most of her life in Kul Wicasa of South Dakota. She attended grade school at Lower Brule Elementary School of Lower Brule, SD. Upon completion of the eighth grade, she transferred to Crow Creek High School of Stephan, SD. Jan then attended Kicking Horse Job Corps in Montana.
She returned to Lower Brule, SD, making her home on “Indian Alley.”
She was employed at the Golden Buffalo Casino and held various other jobs in Lower Brule, SD.
Jan loved to socialize. She loved playing board games, card games and attending family gatherings. She liked to watch “babysit” her nieces and nephews. She loved them very much and enjoyed welcoming all of them into her life.
January was a loving person, who unselfishly shared her life with friends and family. She was forever giving her friends nicknames and joking around with them.
Grateful for having shared her life are her father, Kenny Madison; her mother, Willa Madison; a half-sister, Georgie Ann; a special friend, Jericho Middletent and her many aunties, uncles and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William and Bertha Fire Cloud and Albert and Lucy Madison; her cousins and a few very close friends who have made their journey.
Hickey Funeral Chapel of Chamberlain, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
