Ivadell ‘Ivy’ Head

Funeral services for Ivadell “Ivy” Head, 72, of Fort Thompson, SD, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2020, at 1573 Old Lodge Road of Fort Thompson, SD.
Wake services were held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at the Presbyterian Conkicaske of Fort Thompson, SD.
Ivadell “Ivy” Head made her journey home on June 19, 2020, from Sanford University of South Dakota Medical Center of Sioux Falls, SD, surrounded by family and friends.
Ivadell “Ivy” Head was born April 28, 1948, at Chamberlain, SD, to Leon Kirkie, Sr. and Laura Mae Harrison.
She attended grade school at Fort Thompson, SD, and finished high school at Gann Valley, SD. After high school, she attended Haskell Indian Junior College where she met Leslie “Corky” Ross. They then were married in 1969 and to this union five children were born – Lesly, Cameron, Ursula, Bryant and Dennis Ross.
Ivy worked at the Red Horse Lodge and various other jobs with the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe and Crow Creek School.
In 1978, Ivy met Harry Head and on Dec. 28, 1979, they joined their hands in marriage at Pierre, SD.
Ivy and Harry raised five children together.
Ivy loved playing softball and bingo, also going to the casino where she enjoyed visiting with her family and friends.
Grateful for having shared her life are Lesly Gayton and husband, Larry of Fort Thompson, SD, Cameron Ross of Fort Thompson, SD, Ursula Ross of Fort Thompson, SD, Bryant Ross and wife, Melissa of Fort Thompson,
SD, and Dennis Ross and wife, Tonya of Wagner, SD; brothers, Richard Kirkie and wife, Doris of Fort Thompson, SD, and Melby Kirkie of Fort Thompson, SD; sisters, Elnita Rank of Fort Thompson, SD, and Patsy Kirkie Marques of Pierre, SD, 26 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon Kirkie, Sr. and Laura Mae Harrison; a son, Marty Shawn Rank; brothers, Leon Kirkie, Jr. and Ronald Kirkie, Sr; a sister, Mania Kirkie Mann; a great grandson, Kymahni
Goodlow and the love of her life, Harry Head.
