Funeral services for Herbert James Eagle Thunder, 61, of Lower Brule, SD, were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, at the Holy Comforter Episcopal Church Hall of Lower Brule, SD.
Wake services were held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020, at the Holy Comforter Episcopal Church Hall of Lower Brule, SD.
Burial was at the Holy Comforter Episcopal Cemetery of Lower Brule, SD.
Herbert James Eagle Thunder, Wakinyan Wambli, made his journey to the Spirit World on Jan. 6, 2020, from his home in Lower Brule, SD, at the age of 61.
Herbert James Eagle Thunder, Wakinyan Wambli, was born Nov. 27, 1958, at Community Bailey Hospital of Chamberlain, SD, to William T. Eagle Thunder and Fern E. Stricker.
He was a polite, respected, caring and generous man.
He enjoyed his conversations and visits with his takojas.
He truly loved his Lakota ways in life and he enjoyed singing at the drum whenever he had an opportunity to do so. He always talked about his Lakota teachings from his Lala Thomas, Uncis,Madeline and Annie, Leski
Arthur and his Ina/mom.
Herb was also known as “Swampy” to his friends.
He loved basketball and football, especially the Celtics and Vikings.
He was a wise and insightful man who gave us good advice.
Grateful for having shared his life are his son, Cetan Wakita Eagle Thunder; his takojas, Theresa Wind of Rosebud, SD, Treymaine Eagle Thunder-Algers of Sioux Falls, SD, Jamison Jerome Eagle Thunder of Sioux City, Iowa, Delmer Smith of Lower Brule, SD, and Kray Fire Cloud of Lower Brule, SD; a half-brother, Marlin Greenwood of Springfield, SD; two sisters, Rachel LaRoche and Shirley Crane of Lower Brule, SD, and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William T. Eagle Thunder and Fern E. Stricker; maternal and paternal grandparents; two sisters, Inez and Barbara; two brothers, Elmer and Billy; his beloved daughter, Jaimee Marie Eagle Thunder – Wicahpi Ioyoyapan and special uncle, Arthur G. Eagle Thunder.
Hickey Funeral Chapel of Chamberlain, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
