Services for Gary Lee Haiar, 62, of Mitchell, SD, will be announced.
Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020, at Bittner Funeral Chapel of Mitchell, SD, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Burial will be at a later date at Graceland Cemetery of Mitchell, SD.
Gary Lee Haiar died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020, from a heart attack suffered at his home in Mitchell, SD.
Gary Lee Haiar was born March 24, 1958, to Justin and Marlys (Green) Haiar Schuster.
He grew up on a farm near Spencer, SD.
He started school in Farmer, SD, and graduated from Alexandria, SD, in 1977.
He was very active in 4-H. Every year Gary couldn’t wait to go to the state fair in Huron, SD, for the week.
In 1979, Gary married Lori Zobrist and together they had two children, Kayla and Josh.
In 1991, he married Shelley Miller, and to that union, Kimberlee, Kayleen and Kyle were born.
Gary’s early work consisted of working for Morrells, Herdco Feedlot and self-employment of locker plants in Menno, SD, Pollock, SD, and Miller, SD.
Gary enjoyed buying livestock, going to auctions and sale barns and meeting new people as he could start a conversation with anybody.
Gary’s pride and joy and the love of his life was his granddaughter, Abigail.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Kayla Barnable and husband, Jason of Sioux Falls, SD, Josh Haiar Cokens and Casey of Estelline, SD, Kimberlee Schumacher and husband, Cody of Chamberlain, SD, Kayleen LaDuke of Watertown, SD, and Kyle Haiar of Brookings, SD; six grandchildren, Abigail, Peyton, Klaire, Jevin, Braxton and Drayden; his mother, Marlys Haiar Schuster of Mitchell, SD; brothers, Kevin Haiar and wife, Sara of Sioux Falls, SD, and Monte Haiar and wife, Michele of Fairfax, SD; a sister, Tina Carlson and husband, Kevin of Mitchell, SD, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Justin Haiar; a brother, Leonard Haiar; grandparents, Vyron and Edna Green and Clemens and Anna Haiar; a nephew, Cory Haiar and his stepfather, Myron Schuster.
Bittner Funeral Chapel of Mitchell, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
