Funeral services for Galen Grassrope, 47, of Lower Brule, SD, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020, at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD.
Wake services were held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020, and Friday, Aug. 14, 2020, at the Lower Brule Community Center in Lower Brule, SD.
Burial was at Holy Comforter Episcopal Cemetery of Lower Brule, SD.

Galen Grassrope died Aug. 10, 2020, at Sanford Medical Center of Chamberlain, SD, at the age of 47.
Galen Grassrope was born March 3, 1973, at Chamberlain, SD, to Norma Grassrope and Thomas J. Oldman, Jr.
He attended elementary and high school at St. Joseph’s Indian School of Chamberlain, SD, and graduated from Lower Brule High School of Lower Brule, SD. He attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD, after high school.
He returned home and worked as a certified nursing assistant at Mid-Dakota Hospital in Chamberlain, SD, a dietician at Sanford, porter at Cedar Shore Resort and at the Moapa Paiute Travel Plaza. He then began working for the Lower Brule Tribe in different departments with his most recent job in the CHR Program.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Rebecca; a special friend, Karen Dygert; his mother, Norma Grassrope; his stepdad, Richard Goodface; his children, Doris Grassrope, Shilea Grassrope and Zachary Grassrope; five brothers, Craig Sully Brave Eagle, Joseph Grassrope, Garfield Goodface, Leroy Goodface and Waylon Oldman and two sisters, Wind Goodface and January Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas J. Oldman, Jr.; a son, Adam White Lightning; a sister, Davita Grassrope and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Hickey Funeral Chapel of Chamberlain, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
