Funeral services for Fabian Dean “Fabe” Comes Flying, 52, of Fort Thompson, SD, were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2020, at the Fort Thompson Community Center in For Thompson, SD.
Wake services were held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020, and Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020, at the Fort Thompson Community Center in Fort Thompson, SD.
Burial was at Christ Episcopal Cemetery of Fort Thompson, SD.
Fabian Dean “Fabe” Comes Flying journeyed to the spirit world on Feb. 23, 2020, at Sanford Medical Center of Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 52.
Fabian Dean “Fabe” Comes Flying was born June 13, 1967, at Mid-Dakota Hospital in Chamberlain, SD, to Jozay and Delores (Ross) Comes Flying.
He attended Fort Thompson Elementary School of Fort Thompson, SD, and upon completion then transferred to Crow Creek High School of Stephan, SD. He later obtained his GED.
In 1986, Fabe was blessed with his firstborn, Brandon Comes Flying of Pierre, SD. And throughout his years, he was blessed with a son, Trevor Williams of Fort Thompson, SD, son, Joseph Comes Flying III (Sonny Joe)
of Chamberlain, SD, son, Sunrise Comes Flying of Eagle Butte, SD, daughter, Emilia (MiMi) Comes Flying of Iowa, and two special stepdaughters Diamond Sazue of Fort Thompson, SD, and Mykayla LaBlanc of Eagle Butte, SD.
Fabe worked for the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe as a community health representative and as an emergency medical technician for the ambulance program. Fabian relocated from Fort Thompson, SD, to Minnesota where he worked as a carpenter for a construction company. Returning back home, he worked for the Lakota Thrifty Mart as the meat department supervisor in Eagle Butte, SD, and also had various jobs throughout his life.
Fabe also loved working on electronics, whether it be new or repairing older used items. He always seemed to figure out which wires went where.
It was one of his many hobbies.
He was also very talented in working with leather, making very detailed items from wallets to belts.
Fabe loved being outdoors, always making family events or holidays something extra special because of his love for the grill.
Playing horseshoes was also one of his favorite hobbies.
Fabe was also a very good mechanic. He loved to always work on vehicles.
No matter what he was doing, he always made time for his family and friends and cherished them dearly. Fabe’s loving, caring, kind and outgoing personality will be surely missed.
Grateful for also having shared his life are his two sisters, Wanda Gourneau and husband, Frank of Fort Thompson, SD, and Janice Bad Moccasin of Shakopee, MN; a brother, Farlan Comes Flying of Fort Thompson, SD; a special sister-in-law, Michelle Comes Flying of Fort Thompson, SD; a very special stepmother, Virginia (Jeanie) Bad Moccasin of Minneapolis, MN, and his other half, Leatha Loudner of Fort Thompson, SD.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; his parents, Jozay and Delores Comes Flying; his brothers, Armand Comes Flying, Sr. and Llewellyn Comes Flying; a sister, Deb Walking Bull; a special niece, Nellie Walking Bull; a special brother-in-law, Arnold Walking Bull, Sr. and his little brother and best friend whom he loved and cherished very much, Travis Comes Flying.
Hickey Funeral Chapel of Chamberlain, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
