Graveside services for Ethel Rose Left Hand Bull, 55, of Big Bend, SD, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2020, at the Howe Family Cemetery at Big Bend, SD.
Ethel Rose Left Hand Bull entered the spirit world on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2020, from Avera McKennan Hospital of Sioux Falls, SD.
Ethel Rose Left Hand Bull was born Feb. 10, 1965, to John Howe, Sr. and Cynthia (Iron Road) Howe.
She was raised in Big Bend, SD, and attended Crow Creek Tribal Schools of Stephan, SD, where she received her high school diploma.
She attended United Tribal Technical College to obtain her early childhood education degree in 1995. She then went to get her teaching degree in May of 2000. She began her teaching career at St. Francis Indian School.
She taught there many years before coming back to Big Bend, SD, because of her mom’s illness. After a while, she went back to St. Francis Indian School to continue teaching and to achieve her master’s degree.
After the school closed this March of 2020, she came home and was hired as a supervisor for COVID security.
She fell ill June 29, 2020. She then was transferred to the Pierre, SD, hospital, and later taken to Sioux Falls, SD, where she died.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Dwight Left Hand Bull; her children, Summer Young Bear and her four children, Jonne Lynn Young Bear and her six children, Vina Young Bear and her five children, Ignatus Young Bear, Yamni Horse Looking and Madeline Horse Looking; sisters and brothers, Janice Howe Adrian, Candace Howe, Clarice Jewett, Leatrice Seaboy, Marice Ashley, Raynard Howe and Charles Howe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Howe, Sr. and Cynthia Howe and a brother, John “Sonnyboy” Howe, Jr.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
