Graveside services for Ervin R. “Erv” Beckman, 74, of Chamberlain, SD, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2020, at Riverview Cemetery of Chamberlain, SD.
Visitation began at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2020, at Riverview Cemetery of Chamberlain, SD.
Burial was at Riverview Cemetery in Chamberlain, SD.
During this time of COVID-19 and with the service being open to the public, the family asked everyone be mindful of practicing social distancing at the cemetery.
Ervin R. “Erv” Beckman died May 6, 2020, at his home in Chamberlain, SD, doing what he enjoyed – mowing his yard.
Ervin R. “Erv” Beckman was born March 2, 1946, at Mitchell, SD, to Clyde and Jennie (Sterk) Beckman.
He joined older sister, Gladys and became a big brother to Evelyn, Melba and Gary.
He grew up in Platte, SD, and graduated from Platte High School of Platte, SD, in 1965.
He joined the United States Army and served in Germany from 1966 to 1968. After being discharged, he returned to Platte, SD, and worked for various farmers in and around the Platte, SD, area.
He moved to Chamberlain, SD, and started his welding career, first working for Harry’s Welding and continued his on-the-job learning with Dick Williamson’s welding.
Erv married Eugenia “Jean” Hanig of Reliance, SD, on Oct. 19, 1973, resulting in two daughters.
In February of 1982, he started Beckman’s Welding and Repair.
He took pride in his yard.
He enjoyed welding, racing cars, gardening and cruising.
He was a member of the Lakers Car Club and the National Welders Association.
He was a team player in his daughters’ and grandchildren’s lives.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Eugenia “Jean” Beckman of Chamberlain, SD; his oldest daughter, Erin and family, Jeremy, Lincoln and Grayson; his youngest daughter, Libby and family, Chris, Marlow and Isla; sisters, Gladys Beckman of Platte, SD, Evelyn Bultsma and husband, Lloyd of Sioux Falls, SD, and Melba Gukeisen and husband, Rich of Sioux Falls, SD, and a brother, Gary Beckman and wife, Marge of Parker, SD.
On his final cruise, he was greeted by his parents, Clyde and Jennie Beckman; his in-laws, John and Orvilla Hanig and a brother-in-law, Mark Hanig.
Hickey Funeral Chapel of Chamberlain, SD, was in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be used to purchase trees in memory of Erv.
