Eleanor Louise Viereck

Due to COVID-19, a private burial for Eleanor Louise Viereck, 95, of Kimball, SD, will be held at the GAR Cemetery at Miller, SD, at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2020.
Eleanor Louise Viereck died peacefully Friday, April 24, 2020, at Wessington Springs, SD.
Eleanor Louise Viereck was born Jan. 7, 1925, in Buffalo County of South Dakota to Heneretta (Kruse) and Frank Brothanek.
She attended country school for grade school and graduated high school from Gann Valley, SD. After graduating from high school, she worked at the Federal Land Bank in Miller, SD.
On June 28, 1945, Eleanor married Herman Frank Viereck, Jr. at St. Placid Catholic Church in Buffalo County of South Dakota.
Eleanor and Herman lived and farmed in Buffalo County of South Dakota where they raised their four daughters.
Eleanor worked nights at the Chamberlain hospital in the office. She drove the school bus and worked at the Wessington Springs Grade School for over 20 years.
Herman passed away in 1977.
Eleanor remained on the farm for nearly 40 years. While on the farm, she enjoyed mowing the lawn, playing cards with the neighbor ladies, reading and visits from her daughters and grandkids.
Grateful for having shared her life are her four daughters, Linda of Kimball, SD, Nancy and husband, Gary of White Bear Lake, MN, Joanne of Wessington Springs, SD, and Patty and husband, Gayle of Sioux Falls, SD;
12 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and two great grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Frank Viereck, Jr.; her parents, Heneretta and Frank Brothanek; a brother, Andrew Brothanek; a son-in-law, Leroy (Cork) and a grandson, Lance.
Basham Funeral Service of Wessington Springs, SD, will be in charge of arrangements.
