His Dakota name was Ohitika Hoksida “Solider Boy.”
He was the eldest of nine brothers and sisters.
Edward graduated from Riggs High School of Pierre, SD, in 1954, shortly after, he enlisted in the Marine Corps.
Edward Jr. then enlisted in the United States Army. He traveled to various places and loved talking about all the places he visited during the war.
After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1964, he married, Mary Pretty Weasel and to this union, they had a son named Everette Howe.
Everette was an only child. Edward and his wife, Mary moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where they lived for 13 years. Soon after his son’s passing, he moved back to the West Bend, SD, area. Edward Howe, Jr. spent the remainder of his life in the Harrold, SD, and Pierre, SD, areas. He enjoyed taking polaroid pictures with everyone because “he wanted to always be remembered after he left.” He loved talking
about the “good ole days” and always wondered how everyone was doing and if they were okay, especially Lucilla Adrian. He would often have long conversations after he would complete his dialysis.
