Earl A. Perryman

Private funeral services for Earl A. Perryman, 83, of Huron, SD, were held on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2020, at Welter Funeral Home of Huron, SD.
Visitation was held from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2020, with the family present from 5 to 6 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home of Huron, SD. Guidelines were in place and masks were recommended.
Burial was at the Pukwana Community Cemetery of Pukwana, SD.
Earl A. Perryman died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020, at Huron Regional Medical Center of Huron, SD.
Earl A. Perryman was born Oct. 13, 1936, at Hurley, SD, to George A. “Ace” and Jessie (Warren) Perryman.
The family moved to the Osceola-Bancroft, SD, area in 1945. Earl grew up on the family farm near Osceola, SD. He graduated from Bancroft High School of Bancroft, SD, and later received his bachelor’s degree from Huron College of Huron, SD.
He played amateur baseball in Huron, SD, and De Smet, SD, while in college.
He served in the South Dakota Army National Guard from 1959 to 1965, with the 153rd Engineering Battalion.
Earl spent 15 years in secondary education in South Dakota, working in different positions including teacher, counselor and school district business manager. He attended the University of Wyoming-Laramie, on a Carnegie Fellowship. In 1970, he obtained a master’s degree in counseling from South Dakota State University of Brookings, SD.
On July 15, 1972, he married Linnet K. Priebe at Chamberlain, SD. In 1975, he left education and was employed by the State of South Dakota for over 20 years, working for the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation out of the Huron, SD, and Brookings, SD, offices.
After retirement, he and Linnet spent a lot of time providing supportive physical care of their parents and maintaining family property.
Hobbies included both summer and ice fishing.
Both he and Linnet spent every fall deer hunting, south of Chamberlain, SD, in the Elm Creek area.
Earl belonged to various associations while working and was on the board of trustees of the Riverview Methodist Church in later years.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 48 years, Linnet Perryman of Huron, SD; a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Lois McCormick and several cousins. Earl and Linnet always joked they co-raised their seven
nieces and nephews as they spent the summers and holidays in South Dakota together, including Shari Matheson and husband, Ben of Mercer Island, WA, Sean McCormick and wife, Amanda of Buffalo, NY, Scott McCormick and wife, Lisa of Birmingham, Alabama, Kara McCormick of Sioux Falls, SD, Kory Livingston and husband, Todd of Bellevue, WA, Kevin McCormick and wife, Jodi of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, and Lesley Petree and husband, James of Sioux Falls, SD, and 19 grandnieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George A. “Ace” and Jessie Perryman and several aunts and uncles.
Welter Funeral Home of Huron, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
