Donald Wayne Zeman died May 5, 2020, in the comfort of his own home in Pukwana, SD, at the age of 82.
Donald Wayne Zeman was born Jan. 20, 1938, to Vernon and Lorraine (Toupal) Zeman.
He grew up on a farm near Bijou Hills of South Dakota where he attended grade school. His high school years in Pukwana, SD, were cut short as he enlisted in the Army on Sept. 9, 1955.
He attended basic training for infantry at Camp Chaffee in Fort Smith, Arkansas, at the age of 16 years and eight months. After his training was complete, Don boarded the ship at the New York Port and headed to Bremenhaven, Germany, to fulfill his duties.
Don met his wife Betty in 1958. They married on Dec. 1, 1958, in Pierre, SD, and had seven children – Diane, Greg, Donald, Randy, Julie, Angela and Jennifer.
During Don’s early and late years, he enjoyed bowling, attending his grandchildren’s school activities and the lawn mower races, drinking coffee, gardening, playing cards with his buddies, hunting and fishing.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Betty Zeman of Pukwana, SD; four daughters, Diane Ramey and husband, Marvin of Pukwana, SD, Julie Pickner and husband, Ron of Pukwana, SD, Angela Zeman of Oacoma, SD, and Jennifer Reindl of Kennebec, SD; three sons, Greg Zeman and wife, Angelia of Chamberlain, SD, Randy Zeman and Nikki Mines of Chamberlain, SD, and Donald Zeman and Tammy James of Pukwana, SD; his sisters, Shirley Ford, Mavis Schoenfelder and Jeanette Shroyer; a stepbrother, Daniel Hieb; 19 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; his fishing buddy, Harold Koch and all of the Silver Dollar card players.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Zeman and Lorraine Hieb; his sisters, Elaine VanLoh and Janice Hickey; a granddaughter, Maci Marie and a son-in-law, Dana L. Kenobbie.
Hickey Funeral Chapel of Chamberlain, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
