He lived his entire life on the farm homesteaded by his grandpa, Fred Fletcher.
Don attended Reliance Public School of Reliance, SD, and graduated from Reliance High School of Reliance, SD.
On Dec. 9, 1950, Don was united in marriage to JoAnne King. Together they raised four children.
JoAnne passed away Jan. 25, 1998.
On Nov. 3, 2001, Don was united in marriage to Laura (Ellis) Reis.

Don loved his community and was an active volunteer. He served on the Reliance School Board, fire department and was an active member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Don and JoAnne were especially involved in the building of the new church. They worked at fund-raising events and were proud when enough money was raised to see the new church completed.
The stained glass windows from the old church were restored by Don and JoAnne and are installed behind the altar of the new St.Mary’s Church. He also served as a lay minister and belonged to the Knights of Columbus.
He was on the Lyman County Weed Board for many years and later was appointed to serve on the South Dakota Weed Commission.
He enjoyed working on the farm and raising cattle. When the kids were growing up, he enjoyed boating and water skiing with the family. He looked forward to hunting season because he enjoyed the people who came to hunt with him. He liked to make things – either woodworking or welding. Figuring out how things worked was a passion for him. He loved the mechanics of machinery.
In later years, he took up stained glass work as a hobby. He made gifts for friends and family members out of stained glass.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Fred Fletcher and wife, Joanne of Pasadena, CA, Nancy Anderson and husband, Craig of Merrill, Iowa, Keith Fletcher and wife, Barb of Boulder, MT, and Tim Fletcher and wife, Denise of Sioux Falls, SD; a sister, Rose Marie Karlen of Reliance, SD; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
