Funeral mass for Donald Hanig, 99, of Winner, SD, was held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2020, at Winner Catholic Church, 325 Van Buren Street in Winner, SD.
A private viewing and rosary for the family was held at 9 a.m. prior to the funeral service on Friday, July 24, 2020, at Winner Catholic Church, 325 Van Buren Street in Winner, SD.
Burial was at the Winner Cemetery of Winner, SD.
A lunch followed the burial at the Winner Catholic Church of Winner, SD.

Donald Hanig died peacefully on Friday, July 17, 2020, at the Lake Andes Nursing Home in Lake Andes, SD, with his wife by his side.
Donald Hanig was born Feb. 17, 1921, in rural Hamill, SD, to John and Katheryn Hanig.
He was an 80-year honorary member of the Chamberlain Knights of Columbus and member of the Winner, SD, Catholic Church.
He spent a lifetime doing the things he loved most – farming and truck driving.
He would also want you to know he loved Notre Dame football.
But most of all, he was deeply devoted to his lifelong partner and wife of 73 years – Eleanor Hanig.
He always had a great story to tell regarding one of his many life’s adventures. His lovable smile and laughter were contagious and made people want to be in his presence.
He will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him and will forever be remembered as the amazing man that he was. He will be dearly missed.

of Rapid City, SD, Jean Hanig Beckman of Chamberlain, SD, Ann (Hanig) Thiel and husband, Boyd of Chamberlain, SD, Tony Hanig and Terami Frantz Nespor of Winner, SD, Jim Hanig and wife, Betty of Pukwana, SD, Steven Klima of Sturgis, SD, Mark Smith of Phoenix, AZ, Tim Smith of Phoenix, AZ and Pat Smith of Phoenix, AZ, and several more great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Katheryn Hanig; a brother, John A. Hanig; a sister-in-law, Orvilla Hanig; nephews, Mark Hanig and John M. Hanig and nieces, Cleo Binder and Joyce Olson.
Mason Funeral Home of Winner, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, persons may direct donations to the South Dakota Knights of Columbus Foundation in the name of Donald Hanig.
