​Funeral services for Connie Lee Pickner, 75, of Chamberlain, SD, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, at the Fort Thompson Community Center in Fort Thompson, SD.
Wake services were held at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2019, at the Fort Thompson Community Center in Fort Thompson, SD.
Burial was at Riverview Cemetery in Chamberlain, SD.
Connie Lee Pickner died Dec. 11, 2019, at home in Chamberlain, SD, at the age of 75.
Connie Lee Pickner was born Oct. 11, 1944, at Lincoln, NE, to Boyd Neeman and Lelia Boettcher.
She lived in Douglas, NE, before moving to Unadilla, NE, where she attended school through the sixth grade. Connie then moved to Fairbury, NE, to stay with Alvin and Loraine Boettcher where she attended junior high and began high school. When her family moved to Pawnee City, NE, she moved in with her dad, Boyd and Arla Neeman at Elm Wood, NE, where she finished high school and graduated in 1962.
Connie was united in marriage to Boyd Pickner, Sr. and to this union, 13 children were born. They lived in the area for a short time before moving to California. They returned to Fort Thompson, SD, around 1968 where
Connie worked until 1973 when they moved back to California. In 1977, they returned to the Crow Creek of South Dakota area and Connie began working as a bus driver and custodian, first for the Crow Creek High School and then for Crow Creek Head Start.
In 1992, Connie moved to Rapid City, SD, where she continued her education. She returned to the area around 1997 where she began her administrative position with the head start program. During her career with head start, she worked in all capacities throughout the program.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Crystal Pickner of Howard, SD, Boyd Pickner, Jr. and wife, Debbie of Kimball, SD, Angela Pickner of Chamberlain, SD, Elmer Pickner, Sr. of Mitchell, SD, Donald
Pickner of Chamberlain, SD, Kurtus Pickner and Holly Taber of Chamberlain, SD, Helen Abernathy and husband, David, Sr. of Pukwana, SD, Jane Medicine Crow and husband, Adrian, Sr. of Pukwana, SD, Faith McGee and husband, Frank of Edmond, OK, Gregory “Butch” Pickner, Sr. and Lorna Harrison of Chamberlain, SD, Idiemae Laabs and husband, Mike of Brandon, SD, Joshua Pickner, Sr. and Brittney Rose of Oacoma, SD, and Thaddeus Pickner, Sr. and wife, Amanda of Chamberlain, SD; 57 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren; sisters, Trudy and Shirley; a brother, Lonnie and several other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Pickner, Sr.; her parents, Lelia Boettcher and Boyd Neeman and grandchildren, Garrett Pickner, Acacia Medicine Crow and Sierra Abernathy.
Hickey Funeral Chapel of Chamberlain, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
