Funeral services for Alta Lee Cable, 81, of Chamberlain, SD were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020, at Zion Lutheran Church of Chamberlain, SD.
Visitation began at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020, at Zion Lutheran Church of Chamberlain, SD, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Burial was at Riverview Cemetery in Chamberlain, SD.
Alta Lee Cable died Jan. 1, 2020, at Touchmark in Sioux Falls, SD.
Alta Lee Cable was born Sept. 29, 1938, at Winner, SD, to Albert Clarence and Onalee House Larsen.
She attended grade school at East Cooper School in Lyman County of South Dakota and Chamberlain High School of Chamberlain, SD, graduating in 1956. She attended Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish, SD,
and taught country school for one year at Shelby, SD, which was north of Pukwana, SD.
Alta was united in marriage to Frank Booth Cable III at Chamberlain, SD, on July 14, 1957. They began their married life on the Cable Ranch north of Pukwana, SD, later moving to the ranch north of Chamberlain, SD.
Alta was once a member of the Busy Workers Club in Buffalo County of South Dakota and then the Town and Country Extension Club of Brule County, also of South Dakota.
In 1980, they retired from ranching and moved to rural Chamberlain, SD.
Alta was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Chamberlain, SD. She taught Sunday school and was active in Lutheran Women’s Mission League, serving as society president and also served as Chamberlain Zone president and Chamberlain Zone secretary/treasurer.
Along with her active involvement in the church, she was also a 4-H Mom and an avid artist, a successful cake decorator and a skilled seamstress.
In 1989, Alta began taking in travelers and soon her home became “Cable’s Riverview Ridge Bed and Breakfast.” She was active in BBISD for many years as membership chairman and Great Lakes region director.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Frank Cable of Chamberlain, SD; two sons, Russell Cable of Seguin, Texas, and Steven Cable and wife, Cindy of Sioux Falls, SD; a daughter, Michelle Stevens and husband, Wilson of Goldsboro, NC; a sister, Mavis Hansen and husband, Richard of Reliance, SD; a brother-in-law, Harley Cable and wife, Dawn of Pukwana SD; three sisters-in-law, Linda Kakela of Steamboat Springs, CO, Barbara Williams of Steamboat Springs, CO, and Sharon Caslin and husband,Wade of Chino Valley,AZ; nine grandchildren, Tessa, Lacey, Russell, Cassie, Matt, Jared, Racquel, Samantha and Danielle; 11 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Clarence and Onalee Larsen; her grandparents; her mother-in-law,Agnes Benson Cable Creamer; her brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Gertie Larsen; her sister, Marian Truman; two nieces, Loretta Miller and Jimmi Rose Cable and two brothers-in-law,Wayne Kakela and Charlie Williams.
Hickey Funeral Chapel of Chamberlain, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
