​Mass of Christian Burial for Adeline “Addie” Puetz, 86, of Brookings, SD, formerly of Ethan, SD, was held at 10:30 a.m.Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, at Holy Family Catholic Church of Mitchell, SD.
Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020, at Bittner Funeral Chapel of Mitchell, SD, with a scripture service at 6:30 p.m.
Burial was at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery of Ethan, SD.
Adeline “Addie” Puetz died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019, at United Living Community of Brookings, SD.
Adeline “Addie” Puetz was born March 2, 1933, at White Lake, SD, to Peter and Elsie (Messer) Hanten.
She attended and graduated from White Lake High School of White Lake, SD, in 1951.
After high school, she worked at the bank in Plankinton, SD, and later moved to Mitchell, SD, where she worked at Rozum Motor Company until 1963.
Adeline married Clyde Theodore Puetz on Nov. 10, 1962, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell, SD. The couple farmed north of Ethan, SD, for 30 years. After they retired from farming, she worked at Randall’s Deli
until 1999.
She was an avid bowler for 50 years.
Adeline loved to garden, especially sharing the vegetables and melons she raised with her friends, as well as mowing and maintaining her large yard. She raised about 500 chickens per year for family and friends.
She was an avid sports fan and loved to watch her children participate for Ethan High School of Ethan, SD.
She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and Twins and also loved to watch women’s tennis.
Addie loved having her family and grandchildren visit and preparing meals for everyone.
The grandchildren will always remember grandma being strict but very loving at the same time.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the church altar society and was also a member of the Ethan Legion Auxiliary.
She had been a resident of Brookings, SD, since 2011.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Lou Ann Smith and
husband, Larry of San Jose, CA, and their children, Jason and Mathew; Ken Puetz and wife, Jill of Salina, Kansas, and their children, Nick, Josh and Hannah and stepchildren,Mark and Maggie Matteson; Ron Puetz and wife, Amy of Volga, SD, and their children, Zachary, Noah and Parker and sisters-in-law, Devonia Oster and Delores Puetz.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Puetz on Dec. 6, 2012; eight brothers, one sister and three infant siblings at birth.
Bittner Funeral Chapel of Mitchell, SD, was in charge of arrangements.
