Lamphere, Murphy outline plans for Dignity Of Earth and Sky

By Debi Ruiz

March 4, 2020

A stakeholder meeting was held Friday, Feb. 28, at the Anchor Grille in Chamberlain to discuss plans regarding Dignity Of Earth and Sky, presented by South Dakota Artist Laureate Dale Lamphere and his wife, Jane Murphy.
Lamphere began the meeting, “The project we have planned, we believe, will be a benefit to Chamberlain. We have always felt welcomed by the community and we want good things to happen here. We have been back three times since Dignity was placed at the rest area. Our crew came back to take care of some of the maintenance. That care has now been turned over to the State of South Dakota, who will do an annual inspection and handle the long-term care of Dignity.”
“In the spring, we hope to have signage in place,” continued Lamphere. “We will have four boards in place – one to describe Dignity and the Native nations that reside within South Dakota. We are working with Dr. Craig Howe in expanding the project and want it to be an educational experience. What we need now is grass seed and that’s a pretty easy fix. The sidewalks are in.”
